Spanish Sworn Translation for Academic Documents

Translations prepared for academic use with Spanish institutions

If you are applying to a Spanish university, transferring credits, or having your qualifications assessed in Spain, you will almost certainly need your academic documents translated by an authorised sworn translator. Spanish institutions need to be able to read and formally evaluate your qualifications — and a sworn translation is what makes that possible.

We translate the full range of academic documents commonly required by Spanish universities and institutions, prepared by translators officially authorised by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores) and ready for official submission.

All academic documents submitted to us are handled with strict confidentiality, processed securely in line with UK GDPR, and accessed only by authorised personnel involved in delivering the translation. We understand that academic records contain personal information, and we treat them accordingly.

Your degree certificate is usually the first document a Spanish institution will ask for. Our sworn translation confirms your qualification clearly and in the format Spanish authorities expect, so your application can move forward without unnecessary questions or delays.

Transcripts are often reviewed in detail — modules, grades, credit structures, and academic progression all matter when a Spanish institution is assessing your background. We translate academic transcripts accurately and completely, preserving the structure of the original so nothing is lost or misread.

Enrolment certificates are commonly requested for course transfers, student visa applications, and administrative processes in Spain. Our sworn translation is prepared to the standard required for academic and official use.

Why academic documents require a sworn translation for Spain

Spanish institutions are required to assess qualifications in Spanish, which means documents issued in another language need to be formally translated before they can be reviewed. That translation must be completed by a translator authorised by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores) — not a general or certified translator.

A sworn translation carries the translator’s official stamp and certification, making it legally recognised across Spain. Without one, institutions may be unable to process your documents at all, which can cause delays or require you to resubmit — particularly problematic where application deadlines or homologation submissions are involved.

All translations in this category are overseen by Ana Martínez, Lead Translator, who has 20 years of experience in Spanish sworn translation — including extensive experience with academic documents prepared for submission to Spanish universities, the Ministry of Education, and recognition bodies assessing qualifications for homologación and equivalencia processes.

Common academic documents translated for Spain

The most frequently requested documents include degree certificates, academic transcripts, and certificates of enrolment — typically needed for university applications, course transfers, homologación and equivalencia processes, and other situations where a Spanish institution needs to formally assess your academic background.

A note on turnaround for academic documents

Turnaround varies depending on the document type and length. Standard single-page documents — such as degree certificates and enrolment certificates — are typically completed within 1 to 2 working days. Longer documents — such as detailed academic transcripts running to multiple pages — typically take 2 to 7 working days depending on page count and complexity. Turnaround is confirmed when we receive your document. If you have a university application deadline, a homologation submission date, or a course transfer deadline approaching, let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate it.
